We are announcing our 2008 Q3 New Business figures today and I am pleased to be able to update the market on another strong performance, particularly so given the difficult market conditions of recent weeks.
保誠集團於10月21日公佈2008年第三季業務報告,雖然市場經濟近期動盪不安,我很高興對大家說明集團在第三季的表現還是相當優異。
We came into this volatile environment in a strong defensive position having actively managed the quality of our investment portfolio in recent years. As a result, we have strong capital and liquidity positions - information we have chosen to share with the market today alongside the New Business figures to reinforce our message that we are a financially strong business with excellent long term prospects.
近幾年來,保誠集團皆用最謹慎的投資策略,讓我們再多變的市場環境中保持高度應變能力,也因為如此,藉由這次財報的公佈,顯示保誠集團擁有雄厚的資本與流動資金,再次說明保誠擁有穩健的財務體制和長遠的發展前瞻。
Business Unit Highlights 各地營運表現摘要
In Asia, the business continues to perform strongly with overall growth of nine per cent for the first nine months of the year. If we exclude Taiwan, where the growth 2008 vs 2007 comparative is affected by exceptionally successful ‘What’s your number?’ campaign in the second and third quarters of 2007, growth across Asia was a really excellent 21 per cent. New business has however slowed in the third quarter as a result of reduced consumer confidence following the well-publicised AIG difficulties. This means we are now unlikely to reach our ambition of doubling 2005 new business profit a year early though we are still aiming to meet our original target of doubling new business figures by 2009.
亞洲地區的今年前九月營收較去年同期成長9%,若不計台灣部分,則大幅上揚21%。(台灣地區由於2007年退休專案表現十分優異,2008年業績相對受到影響。) 但受到AIG事件影響,消費者信心受到影響,新契約成長速度在第三季相對緩慢。這表示我們可能無法提前一年達成2005 新契約利潤加倍成長的目標,但我們仍會盡一切努力達成原本設定目標,於2009年達成這個目標。
In the US, Jackson’s total sales were up three per cent. Retail sales, although down four per cent, represent Jackson’s second highest level of retail sales for the first three quarters in the company’s history. Although variable annuity sales were down 26 per cent over the first nine months of the year, fixed annuity sales as expected have been very strong, up 165 per cent.
在美國地區,杰信人壽 業績成長3%。零售部份雖然下跌了4%,但其業績和杰信人壽過去業績相比,還是位居歷史次高。變額年金的銷售雖然下跌26%,但預期固定年金商品銷售則會大幅成長達165%。
Prudential UK continued their excellent performance, maintaining strong growth in the third quarter. Retail sales were up 14 per cent in the first nine months and 19 per cent in the third quarter compared to the same period last year. Sales of with-profits bonds were 174 per cent higher, reflecting the strength of Prudential UK’s with-profits offering and an increasing demand for this type of product. In September, Prudential UK signed an APE £106 million bulk annuity buy-in deal with Cable and Wireless, resulting in total APE sales up 38 per cent.
在英國的營運,持續卓越表現,在第三季維持高成長。 前9月零售業務成長14%,並較去年同期成長19%。分紅保單業績更是成長達174%,這顯示保誠在英國分紅保單的優勢和對這類商品需求的增加。今年9月,保誠在英國與Cable and Wireless簽立一筆APE 1.06億英磅的年金保單,使整體業績成長了38%。
Our asset management businesses performed exceptionally well, achieving just over £5.0 billion of net inflows. M&G’s net inflows were up 16 per cent to just over £4.1 billion and the Asia asset management business recorded £1.0 billion of net fund inflows.
我們的資產管理事業表現優異,達到超過50億英磅的淨流入。M&G 的淨流入成長16%,超過41億英磅,亞洲資產管理業務也達到10億英磅的淨資金流入。
Outlook 展望
There is no question we are now operating in a tougher and more complex economic environment. However, the Group is strong and healthy and I am confident the combination of our retirement-led strategy, business model, healthy balance sheet and strong cash and capital positions means we are well placed to keep delivering strong results and to outperform the competition.
